The project included constructing a single-skin brick dwelling with a sophisticated internal fireplace and detailed bluestone paving work utilising high-quality Victorian bluestone.

Project overview

In March 2021, Mcpherson Masonry undertook a detailed project which involved constructing a small dwelling accented with a front and rear paved area using 20mm Victorian bluestone. The project spanned approximately 10 days for the dwelling’s construction, using around 7,000 bricks, followed by an additional three weeks dedicated to paving, covering 75 square meters.

Masonry brickwork excellence

The brickwork for the dwelling was executed with precision, starting from the foundational course, ensuring each brick was perfectly upright and level. This meticulous attention to detail ensured the structural integrity and aesthetic alignment throughout the construction process.

Innovative bluestone paving

The paving work showcased Mcpherson Masonry’s ability to handle complex designs, including a mitre-cut step at the front and a gracefully curved border around the property. The chosen “crazy paving” pattern for the bluestone required careful sorting of various sizes and shapes, which were then meticulously laid down using a strong 4:1 sand-to-cement ratio. The project was completed with off-white cement and white brickie’s sand for the grouting, creating a light-coloured mortar that beautifully complemented the bluestone.
